"My parents put so much pressure on me to do well in school and my extracurriculars, but I feel overwhelmed and overworked."

School can be really tough and challenging, especially during these difficult times with the global pandemic, which is why it is completely okay to be feeling overwhelmed and overworked. It is also very important to be taking care of yourself and healthily dealing with your stress to avoid constantly feeling negative emotions regarding school. A few tips for balancing mental health and school during these times are keeping a routine, making a schedule, and practicing self-care. You can access more tips by reading How to manage a stressful semester.

I understand that parents tend to put a lot of pressure onto their children to do well in school and extracurriculars, sometimes without considering their child’s mental health. I recommend sitting down with your parents to communicate how you feel, as well as to express why you feel pressurized by them. I know communicating your thoughts and feelings regarding issues such as these with your parents can be difficult, but communication is necessary for this situation. By explaining to your parents how you are trying your best regardless of the current circumstances, how the pressure serves no good, and how you feel overwhelmed, you will hopefully be able to establish an understanding with your parents; and then, you could suggest ways for your parents to better support you in regards to your work.

Remember you are valued and loved plenty. Although I am a stranger to you, I am very proud of you for trying your best and working hard in school as well as for your extracurriculars. Continue to try your best; and, most importantly, focus on the activities and aspects of life that bring you happiness and joy.
